Dear Rotarians and friends,
Something is exciting about the start of a new school year, even long after we stop attending school.  Everything we learn opens up new possibilities in our lives, whether we learn through school, formal training, reading, friends and colleagues, or living.

Last week, Linda Chaplin gave her introduction speech and drew a parallel between her love of sailing and the work she does at Keystone Opportunity Center, helping to guide people at risk of homelessness.  She talked about using a rescue knot in sailing and shared her passion for expanding its use to include struggling members of our community.  We learned that many people are living around us who are homeless and that there are resources available to help them.

Chris Moyer shared an experience with our dinner table.  She was responsible for answering the phones at Calvary Church last Sunday and fielded a call from someone who had been living in a hotel and was out of money to pay for it and looking for help as she faced the reality of homelessness.  I left our meeting thankful that there are resources in the community to help and inspired to learn more about rescue knots and opportunities to help people at risk of homelessness.
