Each week, Rick Kowey, ST Rotary Foundation Chairperson, provides a tidbit of information about the early years of Rotary. Paul Percy Harris was a Chicago, Illinois, attorney. He founded the club that became the humanitarian organization Rotary International in 1905.
After two and one-half years of Harris Huddle installments, the bulletin entry is ending...
I apologize for not being able to complete the Paul Harris story, but I believe that you can see the track Harris was on and that you can connect the club’s evolution to the present-day Rotary International. I personally found the book, Paul Harris and the Birth of Rotary, a fast and interesting read, notwithstanding its daunting six hundred pages, and I encourage you to find a copy to get the comprehensive and unfiltered story. Author, Fred A. Carvin, needs to be commended for such a detailed recounting of the rich history of Rotary International and the world events that impacted it through its journey - also intriguingly peppered with a lot of “soap opera” style tidbits. I hope you have enjoyed the Harris Huddle as much as I enjoyed presenting it!
