President Steve Kendra
Bags of the ever-popular Moyer Indoor/Outdoor bird seed … gourmet meals … orchestra tickets … unique tools and other things of interest … all of these usual auction items, and more, were there for the bidding at our annual Rotary Charity Auction on September 29. Guests included members of the North Penn and Perkasie Rotary Clubs, various spouses and staff from Alderfer Auctions who assisted our own Sandy Alderfer in enticing everyone to up their bidding, and leaders from our targeted charities.

At the close of bidding for the evening – including the silent auction that began during the cocktail hour and continued through dinner – representatives of the three primary charities
to benefit from this annual event spoke to our members in an “appeal” to draw additional funds from the group.

Tom Quinn, from the Montgomery Theater, spoke of all that the theater has accomplished during its 25 years of existence, most recently its Legacy Campaign, and efforts to start a Relaxed Performance program aimed at bringing special needs children and adults into the theater to enjoy all it offers with their families.

Doug Eshbach, director of Generations, explained that the funds realized from our auction would be used to supplement the Meals on Wheels program operated by the organization. Currently the program feeds 175 people twice a day through the Indian Valley and North Penn areas, and as far away as Horsham.

Finally, Suzi Berry from the STRC, who is our RI Foundation representative, spoke of all that Rotary and its Foundation does around the world, in particular its ongoing, worldwide program aimed at eradicating polio.

And then, after all was said and done … at the end of the evening … STRC was able to raise …… $23,461 for all these most worthy recipients!! As President Steve Kendra was heard to say: “Not bad at all!”.  Thank you to everyone who helped contribute to the success of this event!
