Contestants: Liz Herman, Chris Stout, Dan Yocum, Winner, Ginny Vandenburg and President Sarah Bergin
As part of our Centennial year celebration, we were proud to host a special Centennial Four-Way Test, Speech Contest featuring Rotary Members who applied the principles of the Four-Way Test to topics of their choice. The evening highlighted thoughtful perspectives, engaging storytelling, and the spirit of service that defines our club.

We were especially thrilled to welcome nine students from the Souderton Area Interact Club, who played an important role in making the evening run smoothly. These students stepped up as tellers, timekeepers, judges, and even served as our two Masters of Ceremony. Their participation added energy to the event and demonstrated the strong connection between our Rotary Club and the next generation of leaders.
A big congratulations to Ginny Vandenburg, who won the contest by a narrow margin—just three points ahead of Dan Yocum. Following closely were Chris Stout and Liz Herman. With everyone’s busy schedules, we are incredibly grateful that these Rotary Members took the time to prepare such thoughtful and well-delivered speeches. The judges also took their responsibility seriously, offering helpful and encouraging feedback to each speaker.
The evening began with Liz Herman, whose speech (click here) focused on the “Silver Tsunami.” Judges noted her passion for the topic and appreciated her shout-out to the Veterans Brunch at the high school. They also highlighted her strong eye contact and steady speaking pace.
Chris Stout spoke about the value of skiing, sharing stories about making the sport accessible and inclusive for individuals of all abilities (click here). Judges enjoyed his engaging storytelling and noted how connected and comfortable he appeared with the audience.
Next, Dan Yocum delivered a “tongue-in-cheek” speech (click here) proposing that Souderton should annex Telford. His use of humor and satire resonated well with the judges, who also complimented his excellent eye contact and delivery.
Our winner, Ginny Vandenburg, spoke on the topic of social media—a subject that clearly struck a chord with the judges. (click here) They praised her strong and varied examples supporting each point, her clear and effective summary, excellent eye contact, and the way she addressed counterarguments while offering thoughtful solutions.
As the contest winner, Ginny has the opportunity to direct a $500 donation to a charity of her choice, and she has chosen to support The Rotary Foundation—a wonderful reflection of Rotary’s mission and impact.
It was truly a great night for our club. Please join us in thanking and congratulating all of the Rotary Members who participated and helped make this special Centennial event such a success!
