We are living in a deeply divided country right now – politically, economically, and ideologically. It can be difficult to get along with someone who doesn’t share your point of view. Join us to learn how to “agree to disagree” and turn a difficult conversation into a thoughtful discussion so we can all get along better during these polarizing times.
 
Rotary International President Gordon R. McInally has encouraged all Rotary Clubs to have three meetings this year focusing on how mental illness and emotional health affect us all. This will be our second meeting on a mental health discussion and will be led by Lori Vargo Heffner, EdM, MA. Lori has spent more than 35 years working as a psychotherapist in schools, hospitals, and agencies. She is currently a psychotherapist with St. Luke’s Psychiatric Associates in Phillipsburg, NJ.

We will also be welcoming Phil Shade into membership!

Join us as we help prepare the garden beds for the upcoming season!  A morning of moving soil or mulch, planting, watering or weeding!  Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty or wet, water, and closed-toed shoes. 

Garden of Health provides healthy, safe food for low-income families, including those with dietary restrictions, in Montgomery and Bucks Counties!.

The Interact Club we support at Souderton Area High School has had an amazing school year. Join us to hear the recap!

Jenna Sanzo, Director of Operations for Project C.U.R.E.'s West Grove facility will be joining us to talk about her work and opportunities for volunteering. Project C.U.R.E. has grown to become the world’s largest distributor of donated medical supplies, equipment, and services to healthcare professionals in more than 135 countries. This is accomplished with the help of volunteers and donated medical equipment and supplies. Each year, Project C.U.R.E. ships approximately 200 40-foot semi-truck sized cargo containers carrying between $350,000 – $400,000 worth of donated medical supplies and equipment to under-resourced hospitals, clinics, and community health centers in developing countries.

SAHS Principal, Dr. Sam Varano, will introduce this year's students of the month. We will have a chance to hear from each of the students.

The Harleysville Rotary will honor a former ST Rotarian, Sandy Alderfer, at their 8th annual breakfast. A member of our Rotary club for 33 years, and a Paul Harris +1 fellow, we are grateful for his support and talent at our annual Auction as well as the many other community events he has supported over the years.

Psychiatrist Dr. Tamoor Ilyas joined St. Luke’s Penn Foundation in August 2023. He earned his medical degree from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey and completed his residency in psychiatry at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Ilyas also completed a one-year psychoanalytic fellowship with the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia.

Rick Kowey, EVP and COO of Universal Compressed Air will share on the topic, "How to Sell Air for Millions of Dollars!"  Rick will discuss air supply to electric vehicles, reducing energy consumption, and reducing your carbon footprint.

Join us as ST Rotary Members, Steve Kendra, Darlene Scott, and Harleysville Rotary Member Randy Floyd share about their recent service trip to Medellin, Colombia with Rotaplast.

Bring your favorite dish to share as we celebrate community efforts to help others in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Honduras, Pakistan, Ukraine, and many other countries around the world.

The efforts of the following organizations will be featured:

Healthy Ninos, Help-to-Help, Konkourona Alliance Foundation (KAFO) Inc, Polio Plus, Rotoplast, Shelterbox, Souderton-Telford Rotary Club and the Worm Project.

The Roll, Stroll & Run is the largest fundraiser for the Indian Creek Foundation.  Their residents love to attend this event to catch up with old friends and hang out with their families.  We need assistance to hand out water and snacks to participants.

For nearly 50 years, Indian Creek Foundation has served Bucks and Montgomery area children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Karen Misher and Nancy Venner will be joining us from A Step Up Academy, a private, non-profit, co-educational, and non-sectarian school for children with autism.

Third Fridays from May through October, folks from all over flock to Souderton, PA for a monthly street event in the hollow. On these evenings, they meet up with friends, old and new, while shopping and enjoying music, food and beverages. 

Help us promote all the wonderful things Souderton-Telford Rotary Club contributes to the community! We will be raising awareness and communicating the benefits of Rotary, and specifically encouraging attendance at the upcoming Beerfest. Camp Neidig was founded in 1950 to further the leadership abilities of young boys; girls were added in 1990.  Each year, students are selected from the Souderton Area High School to attend the camp and we will hear from some of those students.

Within our club, there are two corporate memberships, Keystone Opportunity Center and UNIVEST. Clarice Foster manages the food pantry for Keystone Opportunity Center and will join us to deliver her introduction speech. In addition, a student (Emma) will be joining us to share her experience from the STEM YEA program this year.

There are two corporate memberships in STRC, Keystone Opportunity Center and UNIVEST. Linda Chaplin manages the community care for Keystone Opportunity Center and will join us in delivering an introductory speech so that we can get to know her better.

In addition, President Kate Hoath will provide an update on the current status of Mpox, which was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization last week.  A new type of Mpox is spreading rapidly across Africa and has the potential to expand to other continents.

Carol Fergusen is one of the founders of the PA Polio Network (PPSN).  They work with many professionals providing valuable information to help educate and spread awareness about the late effects of the poliovirus, and the importance of being vaccinated against this terrible disease, and serve others all across the globe.

More than 40% of U.S. households struggle to afford essential needs, pushing them to make difficult decisions and take significant risks every day.  We will be led by Keystone Opportunity Center through a 2.5-hour Poverty Simulation that explores the lived experience of poverty firsthand through the eyes of real families. Our club has sponsored the purchase of this simulator for Keystone to use as an educational tool. 

For years, many top-down or well-intentioned approaches to poverty have left out the wisdom and leadership of those closest to the challenges. This experience challenges participants to rethink poverty, respond effectively, and partner with those affected for change.  

We hope every Rotary Member will attend this event and invite other friends, family, and community members to participate in the experience.  Our goal is to:

• Deepen our understanding of the lived realities and human impact of poverty in the United States.
• Improve practices and approaches to better engage and partner with people navigating poverty.
• Work more effectively with others in our community to foster opportunities and environments where all people can thrive.
