Join us as Dan Watson-Bey will be sharing with us about Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Rotary.  Dan is a member of the newly formed District 7430 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.

Diversity itself is a complex issue. Recognizing the differences that make each of us unique is not as easy as it sounds. Some elements are physical and easily identified such as gender, race, and age. Too often, that is where the focus begins and ends. There are many unseen factors that need to be considered such as physical ability, religion, education, social status, background, values, sexual orientation, culture, and more. The notion of equity recognizes that not all people benefit from the exact same level of support. Equity is the active removal of barriers to promote fair treatment, opportunity, and advancement for all, regardless of background. Inclusion means achieving a Club environment in which all individuals feel they are treated fairly and have an equal opportunity to contribute to the Club’s success. 

Rotary Clubs in North America are constantly searching for new members. One of the barriers to people wanting to join could be the atmosphere of the Club itself. In order to attract people of all backgrounds, a Club needs to create an environment where everyone is appreciated and has a chance to succeed.

The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions: Of the things we think, say or do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
During the spring many Rotary Clubs hold a Four-Way Test Speech Competition. It is a competition offered to high school students where the student must prepare a five to seven minute speech to illustrate the Rotary Four-Way Test.

The student is judged on Content (50%), Organization (30%), and Delivery (20%). The student must follow the Four-Way Test Theme throughout, must relate the speech to his/her own activities, must present a human-interest appeal, and must choose language that is clear, vivid and persuasive. The student must demonstrate organization of thought including an introduction, clear and orderly points and a brief conclusion that drives home the point of application. And finally, the student must be effective in his or her speech delivery including volume, grammar, gestures and attitude toward the audience.

This competition is always a highlight for our club as we look forward to hearing from the students.

ST Rotary Member, Jay Glickman will be sharing about the importance of having a will.  Mr. Glickman’s practice focuses on wills, estate planning, estate administration, and elder law. He received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and his law degree from Temple University School of Law.

On the 5th Thursday of the month, our club does not have a formal meeting.

Help us keep our two-mile stretch of Schoolhouse Road trash free!  Participants should wear comfortable shoes/boots and clothing to move freely and protect their skin.  Work gloves will be made available, but it is advisable you bring your own.

• Hear updates to our membership about what committees are working on.  This is also to increase awareness within our membership about what committees actually exist and what they are ultimately responsible for.
• Allow committees to make direct requests to our membership.  This can be requests for new members, requests for special skill sets that might be temporarily needed, and/or requests to create subcommittees for a specific upcoming project.
• Foster coordination across committees
