One of the greatest things about Rotary is hearing about each member’s passions and interests as they design and execute his or her own, unique plan for how best to serve the community and the world.

Most members serve others in their work as they find areas of intersection between what is good for business and what is good for customers. Service through Rotary then becomes an extension of that work.

Brandon Trombetta and Tyra Elsner shared their stories with us last Thursday night and it was nice to get to know them a little better. Brandon told us about his path to non-profit management, his journey to become Executive Director of Keystone Opportunity Center, and his wife, son and black lab. Tyra talked about starting her career in banking, exploring some other avenues of work and her ultimate return to banking at UNIVEST. We heard about children and grandchildren and a book she is in the process of writing.

We have two more new member introduction speeches coming up and visitors from the STEM YEA program joining us as we wrap up our summer dinners. I continue to marvel at how we are all connected, which is so beautifully illustrated in the picture below.

This drawing is by Anja Rozen, a 13-year-old primary school student in Slovenia. She was chosen from 600,000 children around the world to create a piece of art to show what peace looks like. She is the winner of the Lion's Club International Plakat Miru competition.  (CLICK HERE to hear directly from her!) "My drawing represents the land that binds us and unites us. Humans are woven together. If someone gives up, others fall. We are all connected to our planet and to each other, but unfortunately we are little aware of it. We are woven together. Other people weave alongside me my own story; and I weave theirs", said the young designer.

On August 10, I sent an email to each Rotary Member with the subject line: Compromise to honor the many different beliefs held by STRC members regarding the Pledge of Allegiance  CLICK HERE to read the message.
