Every other weekend, March – December, engines are roaring on the television at our home.

My husband Ian, is a huge Formula 1 racing fan.  The “race” is not just a one-day event – it’s a full weekend event.  Friday is practice, Saturday is qualifying and Sunday, is the race! This week – Tuesday night - was dedicated to F1 racing as we joined other frugal Indian Valley residents at the Broad Theater for an almost sold-out, “Tight-Wad Tuesday” showing of the new movie “F1”.

F1 racing in the US has grown in popularity over the last decade. The races rotate every other weekend to allow teams to travel to different tracks around the world. The most recent race was in Australia; this coming weekend it returns to my husbands’ “motherland” – Silverstone Circuit, UK.

We settled into our seats and were treated to a movie featuring Brad Pitt as “Sonny”, a “come back” driver, reinvigorating the last-place team. Bet you can’t guess how this ended..but I’m not going to ruin the movie for you!

Sonny said several times in the movie, “Hope is not a strategy.”  This spoke to the importance of planning and execution in racing, highlighting that mere hope is insufficient for success.  I sat there thinking…yes, that’s true in many areas of life, including our Rotary Club’s 100th year.

For over three years, the ST Rotary’s Centennial Committee has been planning for a successful 100th year. There are some truly wonderful events that members of our club have brainstormed and planned.  And just like a F1 race team – we need everyone to be a part of that strategy.

Not every event will be held at the IV Country Club.  I’m asking you now to make the effort to attend a meeting or two, especially when it is NOT held at the Country Club. We will be revisiting some of the projects our club has supported over our 100 years.  Each member of our club has been given a printed calendar of some of these upcoming events.  Click on the follow -   Jun - Dec 2025 and Jan - June 2026. if you need to download a copy! If you weren’t at the annual meeting, one was mailed to the address you have in Club Runner – check that pile of mail on your kitchen counter!  Please take the time to add events to your calendar and plan on attending these meetings.

Just like an F1 team – every person in our Rotary Club is important. Not everyone can be a driver, the owner or even the wind engineer. But without the pit crew engaged and ready to go – our 100th year will fall flat.  We need you to show up at events!

July is off and running – my car is in gear, my foot ready to lift from the clutch and engage with the fuel…I am ready to go!  I look forward to you joining me as we race through what will be a great 100th year!

I look forward to seeing you soon!
