Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,
Two weeks ago, we learned about the passing of longtime Rotarian, Marcus “Marc” Rosenberger on June 19, 2024. Marc represented so much about what is great about living and working in the Souderton-Telford community.
Two weeks ago, we learned about the passing of longtime Rotarian, Marcus “Marc” Rosenberger on June 19, 2024. Marc represented so much about what is great about living and working in the Souderton-Telford community.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and the co-owner of a highly successful area business. He was an active member of the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, a volunteer for Indian Valley Arts, and a member and volunteer of our Souderton-Telford Rotary Club (STRC) for over 55 years. Marc was a hardworking, friendly, and loving man and an inspiration to us all.
My daughters and I had the opportunity to participate in Concert Sundaes last week as they scooped ice cream and I managed the ice cream check-out for Help to Help, led by Rotarian Jessmy Trochez, who moved to Souderton from Honduras over 20 years ago. Frequent breaks in the action throughout the night gave me a lot of time for reflection. I thought about Marc co-founding the event many years ago and what an incredible opportunity it is for people from the community to come together. I looked over at the ice cream cart with Rosenberger’s Dairies written in cursive across the side and remembered my time in elementary school when lunch with a peanut butter sandwich and Rosenberger’s chocolate milk was the highlight of any day.
I thought about Marc loving ice cream and the arts and wanting to share them with friends, family, and co-workers in the community. I watched Jessmy do what she does best and connect her friends and family to all of us through her loving kindness, music, dancing and fun, and I imagined Marc among us with a dish of raspberry ice cream. I watched my oldest daughter connect with many of the children and wondered how many of them were current, former, or future students at EMC Elementary School. I watched my youngest daughter talking with customers and thought about her journey toward becoming a nurse, how important health and well-being is, and I wondered if it is in reach for everyone around us.
I saw a family friend I have known for most of my adult life who is very active in so many community events and enjoyed catching up on what is happening with his family and what other ways he has found to serve the community following his retirement earlier this year. I saw the current mayor of Souderton, Rotarian Dan Yocum, and talked with him about current events in the town and I thought about how fortunate the town is to have him watching out for them. I saw Pastor John Heidgerd and his wife, Ann Marie, and thought about how they quickly assimilated into the community when they came a few years ago. They worked to identify and fill community needs. I saw STRC's Past President, Karla Meyers, and thought about how intrigued my daughters were when they first saw her lead the Club over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic and about how successful the Interact Club at Souderton Area High School is because of her leadership.
I experienced the full beauty, honor, and privilege of being in an exceptionally well-designed and renovated park, thanks to the leadership of Rotarian Leon Moyer, where we could all come together and enjoy the best this country has to offer, each other. I felt sure that Marc would have loved it and thankful for the opportunity to be the new President of the Souderton Telford Rotary Club.
A Celebration of Life is being held for Marc on Friday, July 5, at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church at 2 pm and I look forward to hearing further reflections from many of you as we honor this amazing man.
