Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Last week, we had our last STRC and STRC Foundation Board Meeting of the 2024-2025 Rotary Year and there was something in the meeting that really stood out to me that may not make the minutes you will receive in July.
Leon Moyer provided a park update and talked about the incredible generosity of club members, Souderton borough, area businesses, contractors and the community members who have come together in support of this project to celebrate our 100th year, which begins with changeover on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Leon estimates the value of the project to be approximately 1.3 million dollars.
Most remarkable to me is that with all of the work that Leon has put into the project over the past six years, his focus is one of gratitude. There have been countless meetings, negotiations, contracts, fundraisers, appointments, updates and unexpected events in pulling this incredible project together. I was shocked that as Leon gave his update, he thanked us, as the Board of Directors, for all of our support.
Leon, thank you for leading this project. We know only a little of what you have gone through to make this happen, but the results are magnificent. The Souderton Community Park is absolutely beautiful and so well loved. It is the realization of the Rotary vision:
Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe in our communities and in ourselves.
I will be inspired by your vision, hard work, commitment to excellence, and your dedication to the community and to our club every time I visit.
In Rotary
Kate Hoath
President
P.S. After I sent this letter to Sarah for inclusion in the bulletin, I received a call from Jay Glickman. Leon had requested that we include $10,000 in the 2025-2026 budget for any last expenses that could arise in closing out the park project when we met on Thursday. The Board supported the addition without question. Jay talked with Jim Cronk after the meeting, who has made many generous donations to our club and in support of the park previously and Jim sent Jay $5,000 to help cover the requested park budget. It is just another great example of the generosity (and great communication by Leon and Jay) that has made this project possible.
