It was a delight to host three SA High School Interact Students who shared with us their recent service activities! Such inspiration!
Lyla Soueidan (grade 12, not in photo) shared about the food collection for the 100 Box Challenge Food Drive for the Bean Bag Food Program. This collection has become an annual event for the Interact students. Several teachers provided incentives for students to bring in non-perishable food and household items. ST Rotary Member Jim Leary once again drove the Care & Share truck over to pick up the food and deliver it to the Bean Bag Food Program. It was a great activity - students supporting other students. Keira Drissel (12), and Gabe Longenecker (11) shared about Project CURE. Interact students learned about this service opportunity at our April 24, 2024 meeting. Project CURE has grown to become the world’s largest distributor of donated medical supplies, equipment, and services to healthcare professionals in more than 135 countries. This is accomplished with the help of volunteers and donated medical equipment and supplies. Each year, Project C.U.R.E. ships approximately 200 40-foot semi-truck sized cargo containers carrying between $350,000 – $400,000 worth of donated medical supplies and equipment to under-resourced hospitals, clinics, and community health centers in developing countries.
The Interact students served with students from four other SAHS clubs – sending almost 100 volunteers! They left Souderton at 6:45AM and traveled down to the West Grove location. They returned after 3PM – it was a long day! Students were divided into groups to sort and prepare medical equipment for shipment. This was the largest group Project CURE had serve at once and hope the students will return again next year – perhaps two times!
It was very inspiring to see these students engaged and excited about serving others. I love thinking about the connections between our club and the school’s Interact club, how they attend our meeting, get excited about a project….and then organize 100 people to serve! #peopleofaction
