When I became the Executive Director at Care & Share, I had the opportunity to work with a consultant. My first “assignment” was to write my obituary. The idea was to help me focus on getting my priorities in order. I decided to use the same six words I used for that assignment, “Well done good and faithful servant”. The phrase comes from the Parable of the Talents in the Bible located in Matthew 25:14-30, where a master entrusts his servants with different amounts of "talents" (representing abilities, resources, or opportunities) before departing on a journey. The phrase "Well done, good and faithful servant" is a commendation from the master to the faithful servants, acknowledging their diligence and faithfulness. The parable teaches the importance of using one's gifts and abilities for good and demonstrates God's expectation for his followers to be active and productive in their lives.
This parable has always been a reminder of my focus in my life. Six simple words that inspire me on my leadership journey.
I’d like to encourage you to take a moment to think about your six words. What might they be? I’d enjoy hearing them the next time we see each other.
